RecommendedThe other day, I was reviewing a candidate’s resume and found this language on the last page where I usually see something about references.

“Recommendations
See my LinkedIn Profile to review what others are saying about my abilities, work ethics, and leadership.”

In this age of social media, more and more candidates seem to be getting comfortable with the idea that referring prospective employers to LinkedIn recommendations boosts their viability. When asked for reference contact information, I have even seen candidates provide pages of LinkedIn recommendations rather than traditional reference contacts. Is a shift occurring? Is this a sign of things to come? Is the end of the traditional reference check near? Do LinkedIn recommendations lack credibility or are they better than the traditional reference check?

What do you think?
