As a recruiter, I talk to good people every day who are considering changing jobs. And even if they aren’t, they are forced to at least think about the possibility for a minute or two when I call.
But how do we really know if we are in the right place or if we should perk up and pay attention?
Thanks to my former boss (who gets all the credit and more for this little quiz), there are three super simple questions that can offer a whole lot of clarity. Think of your current work situation, then ask yourself:
1. Am I learning something new?
2. Does my work make a difference?
3. Am I having fun?
“Yes” to all three? Awesome! Keep on rockin’ and consider yourself lucky.
If the answer to any one of these three questions is consistently “no,” then alarm bells should be going off. Do something before it gets any worse.
If two or all three are consistently “no,” then it may be time to take your ball to another playground.
Easy peasy. Life is too short to toil in obscurity. When today is gone, it is gone forever. Did you learn something new? Did you make a difference? Did you have fun?
And remember, any job change should ultimately result in more happiness – never less.
Live well.
How do you know if you are in the right place?
